Changing port allocation

CAUTION: Changing the port allocation may make Service Desk unusable. Only change the port allocation with directions of your system administrator.

Service Desk constantly communicates with the Service Desk database. To communicate, Service Desk needs a port number. Service Desk can allocate a port number itself or you can allocate a specific port number. If your company uses firewalls you may be required to use static port allocation. Ask your system administrator for the correct settings.

To change port allocation:

  1. Choose Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. To let Service Desk allocate a port number, select the Dynamic port allocation checkbox.
  4. To use a specific port number, click Static port allocation and type a port number in the adjacent field.
