If you are connected to the Service Desk server, all data is
loaded from the server. The client program only sends compressed
data to the server and the server only sends compressed data to the
client. With data compression Service Desk tries to minimize the
use of the network. Even with high speed setups, high use of the
network can be a limiting factor for the speed of Service Desk.
Although Service Desk is made for speed, it can take time to
exchange data with the server. You can help to make Service Desk as
fast as possible by abiding to a few simple rules.
You can do the following:
Minimize the number of fields shown in a form. Only the data
for the fields shown in the form are sent from the server.
Unfortunately, unless you are the system administrator you cannot
alter forms. Contact your system administrator if you think a form
can be set up more efficiently.
If a form contains the same number of fields as there are columns
in a view, then the form does not need to request more data from
the server. However, most often a form will be designed to show
more information than the view shows.
Minimize the number of fields shown in a view. Only the data
for the fields shown in a view are sent from the server. Create
your own efficient views or contact your system administrator if
you think more people can benefit from a more efficient view.
Use the filter in a view. Only the lines shown in the view are
sent from the server. Create views that only show the information
you need. The filter is a powerful mechanism to limit the number of
lines sent from the server.
