To make you work faster and easier, you can use drag and drop to
move information. To drag and drop, click on an item and hold the
mouse button then drag the item to its new location. Drop the item
in its new location by releasing the mouse button. You cannot drop
the item if the mouse pointer turned into the following shape:
.
Depending on the situation you are in, you can copy or move the
item with drag and drop as follows:
In a tree view you drag an item and drop it on another item in
the same tree. The item where you drop you item is now made the
parent of the dropped item. All items related as children to the
dropped item and all subsequent items are moved with the item you
drag and drop. You cannot drop an item on one of its children or
subsequent items.
In a table view, tree view or card view you can drag items from
the view to another program. For example, you can copy information to other programs such as
Microsoft Excel.
In an explorer view you drag an item from the base view and
drop the item on a node in the navigation pane. Since the
navigation pane represents one of the fields in the item, you
actually change the corresponding field to the value of the node.
For example, if the navigation pane shows status codes and the base
view shows service calls, then you change the status code of the
service call by dropping the service call on another status code in
the navigation pane.
In a form you can drag an attachment from Windows Explorer to
the form to make it an attachment or you can drag the attachment
from the form to Windows Explorer to copy the attachment to your
hard disk.
In forms where one item can be related to many items of another
kind, you can drag items from the Service Desk console's view to
the list in the form. For example, to input persons you may have
imported hundreds of person items into service desk. The you want
to organize these persons into workgroups. First open the workgroup
item and find the list for workgroup members. Now, open the persons
view and move the console so that the list for workgroup members is
at least partly shown. You can now drag a person item and drop it
in the list for workgroup members. You cannot drag and drop items
to make it a child or parent of the same kind of item, to
manipulate parent child relations, drag and drop in tree
views.
