To duplicate information fast and easy, you can use copy and
paste.
To copy information, select the information and press
CTRL+C or choose Copy from the
Edit menu. To paste information, place the cursor
where you want to place the information, and press
CTRL+V on your keyboard or choose
Paste from the Edit menu.
Depending on the situation you are in, you can also use cut and
paste. To cut information, press CTRL+X on your
keyboard or choose Cut from the
Edit menu.
You can also copy an item and paste
it into another item's opened form or into an item's view.
You can use copy and paste in the following situations:
In forms, you can copy and paste or cut and paste information
in text fields.
In table views and tree views you can duplicate an item. The
new item will have a new ID. History information is not copied. All
other information in the copied item will be the same as in the
original item.
In a table view, tree view or card view you can copy items from
the view to another program. For example, you can copy information to other programs such as
Microsoft Excel.
You can create a new item by copying information from another
kind of item. For example, if you want to create a problem item out
of a service call item you copy the service call in a service call
view and then paste the item in a problem view. When you paste
copied information in the other item's view, a new item is created
using the item's default template and then the information of
matching fields is copied to the new item.
You can edit an existing item opened in a form by pasting
fields copied from another item. The two items can be of the same
type or they can be of different types.
NOTES:
When copying information from one kind of item to another,
information in fields that do not have a matching counterpart in
the destination item is discarded. For example, if you copy
information from a service call to an incident, the description
field is copied but the service call's caller information is
discarded. History information is not copied.
Your system administrator can configure which fields are copied
from one item to another. Contact your system administrator for
further information about the fields that are copied.
